Chapter 820: Elissa's call traced back to the police station.

Eric tagged along as Hadley dashed to the police station, finding Elissa perched quietly in a corner chair.

She was a sight-hair tangled like a bird's nest, clothes smudged with dirt, and scrapes marring her hands and face.

"Elissa!" Hadley flew to her side, clasping her hand. "I'm here now." "Hadley?" Elissa flung herself into her arms, sobbing like a child. "I can't see! The bandages are off already, and it's still pitch dark! Hadley, I'm blind!" Tears cascaded down Hadley's cheeks as she cradled Elissa, stroking her back with gentle care. But in that moment, words were frail things, powerless to soothe.

All she could do was stand by her friend, a quiet anchor in the storm.

"Elissa, let's head hnow," Hadley murmured softly.

Hadley battled the tears pricking her eyes as she gently steered Elissa toward the door. "Easy now, there's a step ahead... right foot first, that's it, now the left..." Eric stood waiting outside. Once they were settled in the car, he glanced at Hadley. "Where are we headed?" "Redmarsh," Elissa replied softly. She then added, "Thank you, Mr. Flynn." "Anytime," Eric replied with a nod.

The car hummed to life, cutting through the night toward Redmarsh.

When they arrived, Eric guided them up to the apartment. With one expecting a child and the other unable to see, leaving them alone wasn't an option he could entertain.

The place was a touch shabby, but the heater hummed reassuringly in the background.

Hadley busied herself turning on the water heater and rummaging for clean clothes to help Elissa freshen up. Keep reading gVlWhile the water warmed, she slipped outside for a breath of air.

Eric lounged on the sofa, setting his phone aside as she appeared. “Need a hand?" "No, I've got it," Hadley said, shaking her head. "Elissa can't be on her own right now-I'm staying with her. You should head back." Eric hesitated, reluctance flickering in his eyes, but he knew Hadley's mind was set.

"Alright, but you'll calllater?" he asked.

"Of course. Go on now. It's getting late." Eric rose, leaning down to wrap Hadley in a brief, warm embrace. "Don't wear yourself thin. I'll head out." At the apartment building's entrance, just as Eric had figured, Ernest's car idled in the shadows.

He had dialed Ernest to let him know Elissa was safe and accounted for.

He strode over, slid into the passenger seat, and shut the door.

"How is she holding up?" Ernest asked, his voice low.

"She is fine," Eric said, piecing together the night, "A little rattled, though her nerves are frayed."

Ernest let out a faint sigh, almost lost in the quiet. He hadn't meant to send lissa running seared, but a better plan had eluded him.
