Chapter 320 One Last Lifeline
"Mrs. Smith, there used to be rules about this. Once the servants have retired for the night, we don't ask them to
do any more work. You could ask the night shift staff instead. Lexine and the others are really stretched thin, and
they've been loyal servants to the Smith family for so long. It's not quite fair to keep ordering them around in the
middle of the night."
Benjamin was speaking up for Lexine and the other servants. His attitude was proper, but his tone was weak.
But Scarlett was still unhappy listening to him. She was half-lying on the sofa with a face mask on. Although her
expression was unclear, it was evident that her brows were furrowed, and her eyes shot out a fierce glare.
"Benjamin, are you blaming me?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Benjamin quickly shook his head and waved his hands, trying to explain.
But Scarlett wouldn't listen. She just raised her hand to look at her crimson nails, which contrasted with her fair
skin, and glanced at Benjamin's humble posture from the corner of her eye. She was extremely pleased, and a
smile curled at the corners of her thin lips.
"I know, you're used to working under Mason and always feel that you can make decisions for most of the
matters in this house. But Benjamin, have you forgotten that this family is named Smith?"
Upon hearing this, Benjamin realized that things were getting more difficult.
With Scarlett's sarcastic remarks, he knew that if Mason remained bedridden, he wouldn't last long in this house.
Sure enough, Scarlett continued in a slow tone.
"You are Mason's confidant, so it's natural for you to be proud. | understand. It's okay, | will keep you for Mason's
sake, but you really can't be the housekeeper anymore."
Benjamin suddenly looked up, meeting her sinister eyes.
Scarlett, with her heavy makeup, slightly curled her lips, staring at Benjamin. Then, her smile slowly faded, and a

Seeing this, Benjamin was startled.
He had always known Scarlett was difficult to get along with, selfish, and unreasonable. But he hadn't realized
until now how terrifying she had become, making him afraid to get close.
Raising her slender fingers, Scarlett blinked, her thick, spider-leg-like eyelashes looking heavy and awkward on
her eyelids, making anyone who looked at her feel suffocated.
"The backyard happens to need someone to move fertilizer materials, Benjamin. We have so many flowers and
plants, and so many gardeners. There needs to be someone to oversee them. Don't think I'm demoting you."
"I'm doing this for the good of the Smith family, considering the big picture. You know, you're capable, and it
doesn't matter where you work. The most important thing is to ease my mind."
Scarlett kept flattering Benjamin.
Benjamin, being a servant, had to follow orders. Now that Mason was not around, he had no choice but to listen
to Scarlett. So, despite his dissatisfaction, he had to nod and agree, transitioning from housekeeper to gardener.
Not only that, but several servants close to Mason also suffered.
Unlike Benjamin, they weren't given any respect.
Scarlett dismissed those she could, even swithout paying their wages.
Benjamin secretly compensated them with smoney.
With Mason still unconscious, Benjamin couldn't trouble Michael, nor could he inform Emily. Helplessly, everyone
was oppressed by Scarlett, suffering in silence.
Moreover, Scarlett's handling of household affairs was chaotic.

She spent money recklessly and frequently brought hsdisreputable friends, causing chaos in the house.
She even occupied Mason's study, leading to frequent arguments with Benjamin.
"Mrs. Smith! This is Mr. Mason Smith's private area. You can't occupy it!"
Hearing this, Scarlett leisurely sipped her coffee, smiled, and looked at Benjamin.
Since Mason was hospitalized, she had taken charge of everything in the house, living a carefree life.
She just dismissed any objections as if they were nothing.
"Benjamin, if | remember correctly, you're now in charge of the backyard. Mason's matters... don't seem to be
your concern anymore, right?"
Benjamin took a deep breath and replied reluctantly. "It's not my concern, but | used to serve Mr. Mason Smith.
You can't occupy his study!"
Seeing Benjamin so firm, Scarlett couldn't keep up the pretense. She slammed the table and stood up, angrily
saying.
"Benjamin, aren't you being too much? How dare you talk tolike that? Do you know who is in charge of this
house?"
With that, Scarlett's eyes instantly filled with desire and malice. She emphasized to Benjamin. "I'm hosting a
party at hbecause my birthday is coming up. What? | can't even occupy a small space in this house? Just
because of Mason's minor illness, | can't celebrate my birthday?
"I've given birth to children for this family. I'm the rightful, legitimate mistress of this house. What? Are you all
rebelling? Does anyone in this house still respect me?" The atmosphere instantly bectense.

Benjamin knew he couldn't win against this venomous woman.
He could only retreat to his room and plan his next move.
Benjamin wasn't the only one who disliked Scarlett and was dissatisfied with her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHer management style was too harsh, lacking compassion, and she often resorted to beatings and scoldings,
which no one could tolerate.
Everyone complained in private but didn't dare to openly resist.
But Scarlett seemed indifferent to this. After all, she had finally gotten rid of Mason
and becthe mistress of the Smith family. She naturally wanted to maintain her authority and show off.
However, this high-pressure rule also planted hidden dangers.
Scarlett wasn't unaware that once Mason woke up or Michael suddenly returned home, she might face opposition
or even suppression.
But Scarlett had long been prepared. After all, she was Michael's mother, and Mason couldn't possibly remove
her from the family tree. Scarlett had long realized this.
On the other hand, although Benjamin and the other servants appeared obedient, deep down, they had begun to
resist Scarlett's rule. This growing resentment was gradually increasing.
Seven directly approached Benjamin to complain about Scarlett.
Given the issue of occupying Mason's study for a party, Benjamin gradually realized that waiting for Mason to
wake up was not enough, but it was also inappropriate to disturb Michael with company matters.
After much thought, he could only think of one last lifeline.
