Chapter 494 Hooked On The Act

Sophia was waiting for her ride at the entrance of a certain stuafter wrapping up a day of filming when a

black Maybach drove up and stopped in front of her. The car window rolled down to reveal a familiar face.

"Hop in."

"What are you doing here?" She frowned and did not move.

"I'm your boyfriend now. Is there something wrong withcoming to pick you up from work?" Zephyr

responded with a soft chuckle.

"You're quite immersed in your role."

She placed her makeup case in the trunk, opened the passenger door, and slid into the seat. After fastening her

seat belt, she said, "Thanks."

"I'm your boyfriend. Why are you thanking me?"

She remained silent.

The car slowly drove over the black and yellow speed bump before merging into the traffic flow.

"Have you gotten hooked on the act?" she teased with a laugh.

He replied, "Since we've already signed the agreement, we should take it seriously. The agreement only

stipulates that we should act all lovey-dovey in front of our parents but can be casual with each other in private.

However, we still need to be a bit more careful. If your father finds out that we barely interact privately even

though we're about to get married, what would he think? Or if you accidentally say something distant like 'thank

you', then what would they think? Would your father suspect something?" She furrowed her brow.

That does kind of make sense. But why do | keep getting the feeling that something is off?

"Have you figured out how to get my dad's approval for us to get married next month?" she asked.

"What about Mrs. Tortell "

"Don't worry about my mom. I've already talked to her."

"It's quite simple, actually. | plan to tell him that a higher-up's daughter took a liking toand asked if | was

seeing anyone. To discourage her, | told her | already have a fiancée and that the wedding is set for next month.

Unexpectedly, she insisted on attending. So, the wedding has to happen." Sophia pursed her lips. "How

narcissistic. So, who's this higher-up? If you're just bluffing, my dad won't believe it."

"Matthew Xenos."

"All right, then. Does he have a daughter?" she asked curiously.

"Mm-hmm. Kylie Xenos. She was my junior in school."

"Oh." She cast her gaze downward. They probably attended the sschool when they were studying abroad.

So, why did he suddenly choose to leave back then? Inside the car, silence filled the air.

As he turned the wheel to navigate a bend, he took the opportunity to steal a glance at her.

Her head was lowered, and her gaze was fixed intently on her knees. It was uncertain what thoughts were

occupying her mind.

He withdrew his gaze and focused on the road ahead.

Instead of taking her straight home, he brought her to an Epean restaurant for dinner.

"Miss, please enjoy your meal," the waiter said while placing the steak in front of Sophia and lifting the lid. There

was a crackling sound as the steak sizzled on the plate. Zephyr pulled the steak toward him and sliced it into

pieces before pushing it back across the table. "Eat up."

"Thank you."

"Ahem!"

"Oh!" She stuck out her tongue as she registered what she had just said. "Sorry, | forgot again, my dear

boyfriend." "My dear girlfriend, let's not make this a habit."

Observing her playful demeanor, he could not help chuckling.

The pair chatted as they ate.

"By the way, are you free tomorrow? Let's go check out shouses," he said. "Houses?"

"For our marital home. I've taken a

look at the available ones and shortlisted three residential areas-Inkstone Gardens,

Willowbrook Estates, and River-

Creek Residences. The location

environment of all three areas are great but the layouts of the houses are different. It's up to you to decide which

one you prefer."

She raised an eyebrow. "River Creek Residences? The one on the riverside peninsula?" "Uh-huh."

Sophia let out a gasp.

Jacaster was situated by the river, and along Citraine's riverside was a peninsula.

A few years ago, Fuller Group's real estate company won the bid to develop a residential area. The project

generated buzz from the moment the blueprints were revealed and was completed last year, becoming one of

the most sought-after properties in Jacaster in recent

years.

There were over thirty detached

mansions on the peninsula, each with two underground floors and three above ground, spanning more than six

thousand square feet. In addition to several suites and bedrooms, the mansions were equipped with all sorts of

facilities including a groom, a gym, and a bar. Each mansion also cwith an elevator, a hot spring pool,

and three small gardens.

In terms of its interior design, the living room boasted six

glass-paneled walls, ensuring ample natural light indoors while also

allowing the homeowner to epic net

the view of the garden and river

from the living room couch. There were even open-air bars on the second and third-floor terraces.

From what she knew, there was not a single mansion in River Creek Residences that did not cost a small fortune.

She asked in astonishment, "Are you that wealthy?"

He chuckled. "I don't have that much cash on hand and will need to take out a loan. Or maybe you could go and

talk to Lenora to see if she can givea discount."

"Let's forget about it, then. Nora and Zachary haven't made up yet, so | can't possibly expect her to ask Zachary

about this."

"They haven't made up yet?"

"Mm-hmm. Zachary having an illegitimate child is no small matter. How could things be so easily resolved?"

Zephyr responded, "As far as | know, she has a good relationship with the child. Also, Zachary wasn't aware of it

beforehand. It wasn't something he deliberately concealed."

"Regardless of whether he was aware or not, the child was already there. Given the relationship between Isla and

Hattie, Isla will be constantly going to see Zachary under the pretext of visiting the child. What woman could

tolerate that?"

After saying that, she eyed him suspiciously. "You don't happen to have an illegitimate child out there, do you?"

"Where has your mind wandered off to?" he replied with a helpless smile. "I'm just curious. Lenora could forgive

Zachary's infidelity, so why is it that this time—"

"Nora's pregnant, and you know what Isla's like. She's spoiled, willful, and unruly. And she has the support of Mr.

Xenos. If Nora were to reconcile with Zachary, wouldn't Isla make things difficult for her?"

"Mr. Xenos doesn't approve of her relationship with Zachary. As long as Lenora remarries Zachary, he'll stop Isla

from getting close to Zachary, even if she still refuses to give up."

"As though he has never tried to stop Isla's willfulness. Did it work?" she scoffed. "By the way, don't mention

Nora's pregnancy to anyone, especially not to Isla."

"Mm." He lowered his gaze, nodding slightly.

"Cpickup at nine tomorrow morning to go house hunting," she said, changing the subject.

"Okay."

In a seat in a corner not too far away, Alice tucked her hair behind her ears.

Caesare and Sophia are already looking at marital homes? Are they getting married? However, it's clear he

hasn't informed Mr. Wilson and his wife. Otherwise, there's no way Isla wouldn't know about it. Is he planning to

go ahead with it impulsively, knowing that Mr. Wilson wouldn't approve?

Her fists gradually clenched.

| can't believe Lenora is actually pregnant. It's impossible for Isla's wish to ctrue. Rather than wasting effort,

it'd be better to let Isla lend a hand.

She lowered her gaze and quietly ate her dinner alone.

About an hour later, Zephyr and Sophia rose from their seats one after the other and left the restaurant.

Alice lingered at her table for a while longer, waiting until she was sure they had already left before finally

standing up and heading back to Matthew's house.

Isla frowned when she saw her walk in, an irritated look on her face, and she could not stop a tone of annoyance

from seeping into her voice as she asked, "Where have you been?"

Noticing it, Alice replied, "I went out to gather information. What's the matter?"

Isla slammed her fist angrily on the table and let out a cold snort. "It's all because of Zachary! Even my uncle

has started to have sreservations aboutand wantsto return home. I'm running out of time!" "What
