Chapter 718 Rhett had texted her, asking if she was free for dinner the next day. Selena replied honestly, "I've got something urgent, heading back to Newport." She wheeled her suitcase out to find Blaine's assistant waiting to pick her up. As she settled into the car, her phone buzzed again. It was Rhett, messaging again about what a coincidence it was-he also had plans in Newport the next day and could take her out for dinner there. Whether it was truly a coincidence or a well-planned move by Rhett, Selena didn't bother to dig deeper. She knew exactly what he was up to. Initially, Selena planned to decline. But as she was about to send the message, her fingers paused. Eventually, she erased her words of refusal and simply replied, "Sure." The next evening at seven, Rhett personally drove over to pick Selena up, and they headed to the restaurant together. He had picked a place with a touch of class-a charming little waterfall and a warm European flair. The restaurant's private rooms were semi-open, separated by large decorative screens that offered just enough privacy while still keeping the ambiance cozy and inviting. Rhett, who had spent years abroad, was direct in his approach with women, yet always gentlemanly. Selena found his company easy and relaxed.

While Rhett went to park the car, Selena went ahead, following a waiter to their reserved room. Just as she reached the door, the neighboring room's door swung open, and out stepped Everett. He was on his phone, but his dark eyes found Selena's, and he raised an eyebrow with a mischievous smirk. Selena hadn't expected to run into him here and was momentarily taken aback. Everett quickly ended his call and walked over to Selena, his eyes twinkling with a teasing glint. "Following me?" he asked. He'd thought she didn't care, that she was indifferent. Turns out she was playing games all along.

Selena glanced past him into the adjoining room, spotting a woman in a pink dress-looked like Joy from the back. Small world, she mused. Returning her gaze to Everett, she coolly replied, "Would you believeif I said it was just a coincidence?" Everett wasn't buying it. What were the odds that on the day he had plans with Joy, she'd also be in Newport, at the srestaurant, at the stime? He stepped closer, leaning in so that their breaths mingled. "Selena, women who say one thing and mean another aren't very likable!" he teased. Selena was about to fire back when Rhett's voice cut through. "Excuse me, but I did invite Ms. Selena for dinner tonight." With that, he quickly moved forward, pulling Selena aside, positioning himself protectively in front of her. Everett's dark eyes narrowed as he evaluated the man before him. Handsand well-mannered, but his youth made him seem less imposing. His emotions were written all over his face, making him no real threat to Everett. Would Selena actually be interested in such a greenhorn? Everett's displeasure was clear as he fixed a cold stare on Selena, expecting an explanation.

Having been married to him for years, Selena knew Everett's stubborn nature all too well. Regardless of his feelings for her, for her bis possessiveness had never waned. He could treat her coldly, but he'd never let her break free. But Selena wasn't going to play along anymore. She met his gaze head-on, without a trace of fear or guilt.
