Chapter 1218 Charles’ Betrayal
"But right now, the most important thing is to save Maeve..."
Cherise sighed deeply while Lucy stopped her questioning. Neither could believe that Maeve's hospitalization was due to
something like this!
She remembered how good Charles had always been to Maeve before!
He had appeared when she was at her lowest, helping her to see her true face step by step. He stayed with her through the skin
graft surgeries and plastic surgeries, finally helping her be who she was now.
Charles held an important position in Maeve's heart. He was so significant that despite her heart condition, she had risked her life
to give birth to their child. She was afraid that death would claim her too early and there would be no one left to apany him.
But in the end...
Cherise squeezed her eyes tight. "I made it clear to you that she was to be handled with kid gloves."

When Damien brought Colin into the fray, she cautioned him to introduce their brother very slowly. Take it step by step, and
gradually let Maeve know the truth and prevent her from bing overstimulated.
But in the end, it was Charles she should have been more concerned about.
"I know..." Charles closed his eyes. "| never meant to..."
He had been set up. His secretaries were always male and never female. Yet today, a new female secretary had boldly invaded his
office with a cup of coffee for him. Though irked at her presence, he accepted the coffee because he was thirsty after a busy
morning full of meetings.
Charles had always exercised caution in their intimate life for the sake of Maeve's welfare.
He was mindful of hurting her.
Maeve also perceived his circumscription and joked many times about getting him a concubine.
But, Charles had always stopped the discussion from progressing any further.
Consequently, when the drug took effect, it had been impossible for him to continue denying his long-suppressed urges.
He and the female secretary named Gwenn had ended up spending the morning and afternoon together until Maeve, who hadn't
seen hhome, decided to bring him lunch herself.
Maeve had caught him rutting with the other woman and saw the tattered mess they had made of the office.
The ambulance sounded like a death knell. Charles's death knell. If Maeve didn't survive this... He was ready to apany her to
wherever she ended up going.
At that moment, urgent beeping machine noises echo from within the operating room. A doctor rushed out, exclaiming, "Are Dr.
Shaw and Dr. Staber not here yet? The patient's condition is getting worse!"
The doctor started welling up in relief as he turned and caught sight of Cherise and Lucy. "You're finally here. Quick, get ready. Time
is of the essence!"
Cherise pressed her lips together and exchanged glances with Lucy. Lucy heaved a sigh and returned a nod.
It seemed that despite being out of practice for close to six months, it was tto return to the operating room together. They

There was a crease in Cherise's forehead as Lucy led the way into the operating room.
The surgical lights left no shadow in the room; this was their battlefield.
They assumed their positions like two seasoned soldiers returning to the front lines after a prolonged break.
Faced with the faint beating of Maeve's struggling heart, all their doubts and hesitations were cast aside.
Their longtfriendship was evident as Cherise and Lucy worked in seamless synchrony.
The crowd of witnesses, consisting of doctors and nurses, gaped at the sight they beheld.
It was as if the two ladies had never left the field of saving lives.
They were as meticulous, precise, and unwavering as ever when performing the surgery despite the long absence from the
operating room.
The surgery lasted half a day. When Cherise finally stitched close the last of the broken blood vessels in Maeve's heart, she was
utterly exhausted and starving, lacking any strength in her body.
