First Love 28
Chapter 28
Donna took off the thin golden necklace to show it to Angela. It looked delicate and elegant.
Angela felt a twinge of envy. She sighed and lamented, “No one is quite the same, Donna. Your husband treats
you well, and you treat him well in return. That's how it should be.
“But with someone like Dexter... Do you think | can bring myself to treat him well? | stopped seeing him as my
husband a long tago, so why should | respect him or love him? I'd rather use that energy to treat myself
better."
Donna didn't know what to say to that.
In the shadows, Dexter overheard her words with absolute clarity. Did she no longer consider him her husband?
Dexter took a deep breath and pushed down the strange, stifling feeling within him. He coughed and stepped out
of the shadows.
Angela quickly finished the oatmeal porridge in her bowl.

expression unreadable.
Angela didn't look up and pretended not to hear him. She thought their pointless conversation would end there.
But in the next moment, Dexter suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward the door.
Angela clung to the door frame. "What are you doing?"
"Erica was burned because of you. Aren't you going to apologize?" Dexter's voice was cold, as if he were trying
to freeze her over.
Angela's expression soured as she yanked her hand away. "She went there to insultfirst, Dexter. Even if
you're taking sides, there should be a limit, shouldn't there?
At this point, Donna had followed them out. She could only watch as they argued; she didn't know how to
mediate.
"If you hadn't been so dead set on staying in the maids' quarters, would any of this have happened?" Dexter
questioned.
His dark gaze bore down on her, and his tall frexuded an oppressive energy.
"Oh, so I'm the problem? Fine. Then | might as well go all the way! You wantto apologize to Erica? No way!
Unless you wantto skip tomorrow's mixer,” Angela responded mockingly.
"Angela!" Dexter grabbed her shoulders exasperatedly. He placed emphasis on each work

“Is that so? Then | must be incredibly unlucky to be your wife!" Angela laughed bitterly, raising her freshly
bandaged arm and waving it in front of him.
She went on, “Open your eyes and look closely! Which one of us is injured worse? Listen here I'm not apologizing
to her. And if she provokesagain, I'll pay her back tenfold!"
With that, she strode off, leaving Donna staring in stunned silence.
Angela's slender frexuded unwavering determination and a cool, self-assured air. It was a far cry from her
previous timid, submissive self.
Dexter felt a growing tightness in his chest.

Everyone knew that Joseph had a big heart. He loved introducing young men and women to each other, and
surprisingly, he had successfully matched several couples over the years. This only fueled his passion, leading
him to organize such gatherings regularly.
Initially, Angela had little interest in such events. However, Joseph had said that she could just relax and have
fun.
“Con, go in and let them give you a makeover. After that, you can join in the fun later,” Joseph urged.
Joseph pushed Angela toward the dressing room happily.
