The scandal on the island had barely died down, and now they wanted to plan a grand wedding? Not only would it publicly humiliate the Arnold family, but it would also dredge up the very mess they'd tried so hard to bury-reminding everyone of just how disgracefully Cole had behaved.
Eric was completely against it.
Howard shot to his feet, pinched his arm to summon a few tears, and forced his voice to tremble with emotion as he said, "It's easy for you to say. You've got a son, so of course you don't care about the gossip.
"But Sarah's a woman. She got pregnant before marriage, and now people are already whispering. If we don't even give her a proper wedding, how do you think that makes her look in business circles? What does that say about the Jansen family's reputation?" Calvin's voice was low but steady. "You've got a point. The Larson family has no reason to mistreat its future daughter-in-law. But still, Cole just got engaged to Regina not long ago. Jumping straight into another wedding now... Isn't that a bit too fast?" "Mr. Larson Senior... So, are you saying my daughter doesn't deserve the streatment as Ms. Arnold?" Rachel asked.

"My poor Sarah... sent to the Larson family only to be treated like a burden. She was scolded in the middle of the night by her future father-in-law, forced to move her own luggage, and when she tried to dismiss a maid, her future mother-in-law lashed out at her.
"Everyone out there says the Larson family is a den of wolves. I didn't believe it at first, but now that Sarah's been through it, I see exactly what kind of misery lives in this house.
"Honestly, maybe she shouldn't marry into this family at all. We'll just take her and the baby home. The Jansen family won't let her starve." Calvin's brows knitted tighter with every word. "She had to move her own luggage? She got scolded for dismissing a maid? What the hell is going on here? I told you all to bring her back to rest and take care of her... and this is how you take care of her?" His voice broke off as a violent coughing fit took hold of him.
Serena immediately rushed forward to pat his back gently. "Grandpa, please calm down." "How am I supposed to stay calm? Serena, you're part of the Jansen family too. Even if Sarah weren't carrying Cole's child, she's still a guest in our home. How could you let this happen?" He turned his glare on Eric and Melissa. "If you two couldn't accept her as a daughter-in-law, why didn't you rein Cole in when he was messing around? "What's done is done. We can't just let Sarah Suffer. If a full wedding isn't possible, then at least give her an engagement party as grand as the one we threw for the Arnold family." Calvin then coughed so hard he nearly doubled over in pain.
Howard saw his opening. "Well, since we're doing the engagement party anyway, how about they go ahead and register the marriage?" Calvin's coughing grew worse, and his face turned crimson. He couldn't even get a word out.
Serena shoved Howard aside and firmly supported Calvin. "If he ends up in the hospital over this, forget about registering-you won't even get an engagement party!" Eric chimed in quickly, "We'll do as Grandpa says. We'll handle the engagement party first. As for registering the marriage... Let's wait until after the baby is born. If it's truly a Larson heir, then the marriage and wedding will be sorted out in no time." Registering the marriage meant real commitment. Without that, they still had room to maneuver.
Eric and Melissa exchanged a look. They were both firm on this-neither of them liked Sarah.
Howard watched Calvin cough like he was about to spit blood and didn't dare press any further. He turned to glare at Serena, the traitor to her own blood.
But Serena had no tfor Howard's looks. Her eyes were locked on Calvin. "What are you all standing around for? Get a doctor-now!" The family doctor arrived within minutes and quickly instructed the maids, "Take him to the hospital!" Back in the living room, the Jansen family texchanged satisfied glances-at least they'd won the engagement party.

Meanwhile, the entire Larson family sat in gloomy silence. Melissa was still fuming, so she clutched Cole's hand as she sobbed. "What a disaster! What is she even upset about? She's been bossingaround like I'm smaid these past few days! Who do I get to cry to? Cole, why did you have to choose her of all people?" Cole said nothing, but his eyes turned cold as they locked on Sarah. It was a silent warning.
She was getting way too bold.
Sarah shrank back a little and leaned into Rachel's arms, looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes-as if to say, "This wasn't my idea. Mom did it all. I'm totally innocent."
