Chapter 409

(Ethan's POV)

The eighteen-hour surgery on my left leg finally concluded. The pack healers managed to save it, but at a

tremendous cost to my werewolf healing abilities.

Dead tissue was removed. A significant portion of muscle was excised to prevent the silver poisoning from

spreading further through my system.

My once powerful Alpha leg, capable of supporting my wolf form's incredible strength, was left scarred and

weakened. | had chosen this conservative treatment knowing its slim chances of success and the intense pain it

would entail.

Silver wounds heal much slower in werewolves. | preferred this agonizing path, however, to facing Olivia Winters

as a disabled Alpha.

| felt unworthy of my Luna's love. Unable to protect the pack as | once could.

A month passed. Dr. Marcus Fletcher arrived to clean my wound.

As the moonstone-infused bandages were removed, the extent of the damage was revealed. The extensive

muscle removal necessitated daily cleaning and disinfection to prevent infection.

The cleaning process was excruciating for an Alpha whose enhanced nervous system mademore sensitive to

pain. | was left drenched in sweat, just as | had been in the weeks prior.

| endured it in silence. My lips tightly pressed together, my wolf whimpering deep within.

Despite the slow recovery, there was no infection threatening my werewolf constitution. After Dr. Fletcher left,

Healer Sarah Mitchell helpedclean up and change my sweat-soaked Moonstone-Infused Recovery Garments.

The pain shot through my leg like liquid fire. | gripped the bed rails until my knuckles turned white.

"Alpha Stone, try to relax," Healer Mitchell said softly. Her hands trembled as she worked.

| said nothing. The agony was nothing compared to the emptiness in my chest. (Maxwell's POV)

| witnessed the toll the fire and its aftermath had taken on my Alpha. Since the fire, and after Evelyn Winters

spoke with Ethan about Olivia's future with Lucas Blackwood, the light in his amber eyes had disappeared.

The Alpha King seemed lifeless. His wolf retreating deep within.

Seeing Ethan's despair and recognizing how his Alpha's wolf was slowly dying without its mate, | suggested,

"Alpha Stone, | will go to Luna Winters and tell her that you saved her and her mother."

| believed Olivia, who once loved Ethan deeply through their mate bond, would be moved by his sacrifice. She

would offer him scomfort.

Knowing how much the Alpha King longed to see his estranged mate, | hoped her presence would alleviate his

listlessness. Perhaps rekindle their severed bond.

| understood that an Alpha without his true Luna slowly loses his strength and will to lead.

(Ethan's POV)

| sharply rejected the idea with a cold glare. My Alpha authority flashed briefly in my amber eyes.

"Saving her and Evelyn was what | should do as her mate," | stated firmly.

| didn't want to use my act of heroism to obligate Olivia to do anything against her will. Especially knowing she'd

found happiness with Lucas Blackwood.

"I'll only say this once, don't go to Olivia," | commanded. My Alpha voice carried final authority.

Maxwell acknowledged the order and dropped the subject. Instead, he handed over the stack of Stone Pack

Enterprises documents requiring my attention.

Despite my condition, | worked through the pack business documents. | attended a video conference with other

Northern Territory pack leaders, maintaining my duties as Alpha King even while bedridden.

The documents blurred before my eyes. My injured leg throbbed with each heartbeat.

But | forced myself to focus. The pack needed their Alpha, even if | was broken.

After Maxwell left, | propped myself up in my hospital bed and reached for my tablet. | continued my daily ritual:

checking up on Olivia through social media and pack networks.

| saw she designed healing crystal jewelry for Gwendolyn Pierce's birthday celebration a month ago. Gwendolyn,

a fashion icon among werewolf society, successfully promoted Olivia's Moonstone Crystal Jewelry Collection

The jewelry was now popular among the Northern Territory's elite she-wotyes. Olivia, focused solely on her

crystal healing designs, had established Moonlit Designs Stunamed after our daughter, Lily.

My heart clenched at the name. Our little girl's memory lived on through Olivia's work.

| followed her career closely through the pack's information networks. | relied on her studio's official account for

updates about the Luna I could no longer claim.

She looked radiant in the photos. Her emerald eyes sparkled with purpose and creativity.

The silver streaks in her hair had faded slightly. She was healing, moving forward without me.

As | browsed werewolf society news,

an entertainment headline popped

up: "Blackwood Pack Alpha Lucas Blackwood's Happy Day

Approaching - Engagement to

Former Silvercrest Luna Confirmed."

The news implied that Olivia and Lucas were planning their official mating ceremony.

The words struck my heart like a silver blade. My hand trembled, and the tablet slipped, hitting my injured leg.

The pain was excruciating. | gasped for air as my wolf howled in anguish within.

| read the headline again, hoping | had misunderstood. But the words remained the same.

"Engagement confirmed." The phrase echoed in my mind like a death sentence.

My wolf retreated deeper into my consciousness. The bond between us, already damaged, felt like it was

dissolving completely.

| had lost her. Truly, completely lost her.

The tablet screen went dark, reflecting my hollow expression. | looked like a ghost of the Alpha | once was.

| felt the exact moment it broke. A sharp, tearing sensation that leftgasping. Olivia was no longer mine. She

never would be again.

The room felt colder suddenly. The moonstone-infused walls seemed to dim, as if responding to my despair.

| closed my eyes, trying to block out the image of Olivia in Lucas's arms. But it

was burned into my memory.

She had looked at him with trust. With love.

The sway she once looked at me, before | destroyed everything.

My hands shook as | set the tablet aside. The headline still glowed on the screen,

mocking me.

"Good things are coming," | whispered bitterly to myself.

For Olivia, perhaps. But for me, there was only darkness ahead.
