Chapter 256 Getting Our Marriage Certificates Theo noticed that Sierra was done talking to Vera. He rose to his feet, saying, "We have something to do today. So, we'll be taking our leave now. I'll see you again when I have the time, Mrs. Shaw." Vera nodded in response and looked at him fondly. Meanwhile, William was obsessed with the benefits that were going to fall into his lap, paying no mind to the fact that Theo treated him differently.

"Don't be strangers now, Mr. Gray. Swing by for a meal whenever you have time. We're all families, after all." William chuckled.

Sierra held Vera's hand, feeling reluctant to leave Vera. Once they were at the main entrance, she lowered her voice and asked in a flustered tone, "Are you really not going for a divorce, Mom?" Vera was patting Sierra's hand, but she stopped momentarily, and the smile on her face turned bitter. Her eyes becshifty for a second before she raised her head and looked at Sierra. Then, she grinned and rubbed Sierra's head.

Her voice was soft and gentle when she spoke.

"Live a happy life with Theo. Don't cback hunless you have to. Also, don't worry about me." Sierra felt a little let down. Her eyes reddened as she responded, "You have to put up a fight or givea call if he hits you again." With Theo backing her up, William wouldn't dare to overdo it. For that matter, she had a bodyguard with her. If he actually hurt Vera again, she would just have to chwith smuscle.

Vera teared up and nodded with a smile.

Theo noticed that they were reluctant to part. He reached out and held Sierra's hand. "Don't be sad. If you have the time, I'll chere with you again and check on Mrs. Shaw next week." Sierra had been fighting back her tears, but they immediately streamed down her cheeks when she heard his comforting words. Then, she gripped his sleeves and cried pitifully.

"Don't cry, Cee. Live your life well. I'm happy if you're happy." Vera looked relieved, and the boundless love in her eyes was unmistakable.

William looked at Vera distastefully. "It's such a happy day, and yet you're crying. You're bringing down the mood." Meanwhile, Xavier was standing to the side and watching them. Sierra's earlier words flashed in his mind, and he parted his lips, but he didn't know what he should say to his sister, who was essentially a stranger to him.

He hesitated for a long tbefore he sprinted toward Sierra just as she was about to get into the car. "I'll make sure Mom is okay." Sierra was surprised momentarily before she looked at him with relief. Then, she sensed William frowning, and her heart immediately clenched. She turned around and stepped into the car with a blank face.

When the car door was closed, she was still staring at Vera longingly.

Meanwhile, William was standing at the other side of the car and saying to Theo flatteringly, "Don't forget about the monetary gifts, Mr. Shaw." Theo gave William an icy glance and said to Adrian, "Hit the road." Once the car drove out of the neighborhood, he noticed that Sierra was still dispirited. He took her birth certificate and said, "Take us to the courthouse." The car made a turn at the junction. Adrian was wearing a gleeful smile as he turned the steering wheel.

Sierra's eyes widened in shock. She frantically looked at the road ahead for a moment before turning around to face Theo.

"Why are we going to the courthouse?" Theo smiled as Sierra stared at him intently. Then, he raised his hand and poked her fair cheeks. He couldn't get enough of how warm and smooth they felt.

He rubbed them for a while before he said, "Getting our marriage om certificate bdon't want to drag it out, lest there should be any problems." Problems?

It took Sierra a long tto know what Theo meant. For a mement there, she couldn't decide how she should react to it. "You have promised him this much monetary gift, Theo. He won't ask for my birth certificate again." Theo looked at Sierra and explained matter-of-factly, "I'm worried that you might go back on your word." She stared at him, feeling dumbfounded. She was shocked to her core. "I... You..." Sierra raised her hand and pointed at herself before she pointed at Theo. She was at an absolute loss for words.

She didn't think she knew him anymore.

He was staring at her intently when she spoke up somewhat frantically, "It's the weekend. The courthouse is E closed."
